The biggest advantage to using social media is that people will be more likely to remember your poetry if its posted on social media. Of course, you need to be careful with your privacy settings so that the public cannot see what youre writing.
If you want to go really extreme and want your poetry to get the widest possible audience, you can also go with Poetry International, which is the biggest poetry magazine around. They accept submissions from both poets and non-poets and publish them out of their own publishing house.
