The game’s creator Toby Fox has stated that Undyne was designed as a way for players who are not used to difficult games or bosses with multiple stages of attack patterns an opportunity at victory. She does have four phases but they’re all relatively straightforward if one knows what they’re doing – which we do!
The first phase is simple: she’ll attack you with a series of sword strikes. Simply use your SOUL to deflect them back at her, and after enough hits Undyne will be stunned on the ground for awhile allowing you to get in close and do some damage! Watch out, though – if you’re not careful she might whip around 180 degrees quickly slashing wildly. You can’t hit her when it’s like that so just stay away until she gets dizzy again.
The second phase is quite similar to the first, but Undyne will also start using a variety of other attacks like throwing her sword and spinning it in circles. The key here is that she’ll be stunned momentarily after each hit so use your chance wisely! She’ll even attack you with an energy beam now too – dodge out of the way or deflect it back at her for some extra damage points.
Next up on our list: Phase three! In this stage we see how much more difficult things get for players who don’t want to put any thought into their actions; there are lasers everywhere! Use those same reflexes from before, keeping away from danger zones while hitting Undyne when she’s down. It might take awhile but after you’ll come out on top.
The key to victory is patience. It may sound cliche but it’s the truth, and fighting Undyne can be a long and arduous process if you don’t know how to play your cards right or get too excited with each fight won (more on that later).
Phase three has the lasers I mentioned before which come in red as well as green – these are just like those from phase one so watch out for them! The only difference is they’ll have limited movement patterns. Stay away from their paths until she starts spinning her sword then use a timed attack when she lets down her guard; this will do some major damage since there’s no safety zone here. If all else fails just keep dodging around until something changes up
Phase four is the final showdown with Undyne, and this time she’s not playing around. The battle starts off as usual but after a few seconds you’ll find that she doesn’t stop chasing you or give any breaks to catch your breath – she just charges right at you! Don’t panic though; it still plays like normal except for the timing of her attacks are more aggressive than before – so if something changes up then change up too! If all else fails remember what I said about being patient earlier. You might take some damage here but don’t worry because in phase five…

Phase five is a special kind of battle where you control Asgore’s actions while Undyne attacks you. It might seem random but it isn’t – there are certain patterns that she repeats over and over again so if you can memorize those then it’ll make this phase much easier! The first thing I want to mention about her pattern is that she always starts off with an uppercut followed by either three kicks or one strong kick before repeating, meaning after every five hits she does, you’ll hear a different sound – don’t get fooled by this! The other thing I want to mention is that there are two moments where Undyne will move back and not attack. These times only last for one second however so be careful when they happen because if you think it’s the right time to go in close then chances are it won’t work out well.
